BIBLE, in Dutch. Den Bibel. Tgeheele oude ende Nieubbe Testament, Antwerp: Willem Vostermann, 1542. 2° (321 x 202mm.). Title printed in red and black within large historiated border, border partly hand-coloured in red, New Testament with additional title within historiated border, one folding woodcut map, numerous woodcut illustrations, one full-page, ornamental and historiated initials, device of two-headed eagle on verso of final page, printed in double columns. (First title detached, beginning soiled and margins frayed, else mainly marginal thumb-soiling, occasional browning or marginal stains). Near contemporary vellum, leather lettering-piece, spine decorated gilt in compartments (recased). Provenance: C. ?Walraice (signature dated 1713 on front endpaper); Norbert Joseph Ligiens (ownership inscription, dated 1715 on front blank).
"One of the small blocks in the frame to both titles contains Martin Keyser's device and initials. Many woodcuts occur throughout the book, some of which resemble those in the English Bible ('Matthew's') of 1537" (Darlowe & Moule 3285). This edition not in Adams.
