BIBLE, in Hungarian -- Szent Biblia, translated by György Káldi. Nagy-Szombat [Tyrnau]: L. Berger, 1732.
2° (329 x 196mm). Collation: [π2] A-Kkkk4 Llll2 A-Xxx4 Yyy-Dddd2 Eeee1 a-g2 [h1 errata]. Engraved title. Double column. (Light mainly marginal spotting, occasional staining and thumb-soiling, R2 torn with minor loss, Pp2v of N.T. repaired with adhesive tape, some short clean tears.) Contemporary blind-panelled pigskin over wooden boards, upper cover with repoussé silver corner-pieces representing the four evangelists [FN, St. Petersburg, probably 18th-century], original brass clasps on leather thongs, plain spine with lettering-piece (loss to one corner-piece, spine bands rubbed, some scuffing and staining). Provenance: Cathedral at Alba Regalis [Szekes-Fejesvar] (inscription dated 1821) -- J. Szasz (bookplate). Second edition of Kaldi's Roman Catholic translation, based on the Vulgate. The first appeared in 1626. Lord Perth's inserted note reads: 'Tradition has it that the Drummonds descended from Maurice the Hungarian!' Darlow & Moule 1626.
