8o (227 x 144 mm). Ruled in red throughout. Contemporary English red goatskin gilt by RICHARD WIER, the covers with a gilt border built up with floral tools and a backward-looking bird, spine elaborately gilt in six compartments, gilt lettered in one, the others with a large floral tool within a lozenge made from small tools and floral corner tools, gilt edges (light rubbing to corners and joints). Provenance: "JFD" (bookplate); Anson Phelps Stokes (bookplate, see also lot 1).
A new edition, without the Apocrypha, the Prayer Book and the Metrical Psalms. Bound by the London binder of Scottish orgin Richard Wier who has bound books for the library of Count MacCarthy Reagh and appears to have worked closely with Roger Payne. Darlow & Moule 9602.
