[Antwerp]: Caspar Rutz, 1588. 2 parts in one volume, oblong 2° (229 x 381mm). Engraved titles to both parts, that to part two with portrait of Gregory XIII, each title with letterpress addresses to the reader in four languages at margins, 69 engraved costume plates. (Plate 1 with tear at lower margin, plate 37 misbound after plate 36 in the previous work, a few plates slightly spotted, some marginal soiling and browning.) 17th-century calf (rebacked, modern endpapers, covers scuffed). Provenance: John L. Nevinson (bookplate).
The make up of the preliminaries differs from copies described by Colas and Lipperheide. Whereas Colas calls for a one-leaf advice to the reader in German, this copy contains the advice to the reader on two leaves and in 4 languages, while the one-leaf dedication called for by Colas is omitted, as is a leaf of portraits of Nicolle and Louyse de Vienne. The collection by Bruyn is compiled from two previously published works. The plates in part one are devoted to civil and part two to religious costumes. Brunet I, 1288 (both works); Colas I, 366 & I, 477; Graesse I, 477 (1st work); Hiler p. 100 and p. 123; Lipperheide Aa23 (1st work); Vinet 2089 bis (2nd work).
