MAYAN MARBLE BOWL,
ULUA VALLEY, EARLY POSTCLASSIC, CA. A. D. 900-1200
Of unusual oval shape, perhaps used as a dipper, carved with a long handle in the form of a stylized bird's head with downturned curling beak and caruncle, the body carved with three rows of opposing scrolls alternating with two human masks, each with parted lips and closed eyes; in creamy white stone.
