[BOOK BOX]. Walnut and marquetry book box with sliding lid. Germany, mid-18th century.
168 x 107 mm (6 5/8 x 4¼ in). Fabric-lined. Each side with wood inlays depicting a different standing female figure, either a Saint or an allegorical figure, all other sides decorated with marquetry interlace design (small chip at top of spine, otherwise in excellent condition). Provenance: purchased from Emil Offenbacher, 14 October 1957.
