BOZÉRIAN, Jean-Claude (1762-1840), L'Aîné -- Catalogue de livres précieux de M. Bozérian aîné.. Paris: Silvestre, 1st March 1811.
8o (215 x 138 mm). Original plain wrappers (front wrapper detached).
PRICED in a contemporary hand. Bozérian, called the Elder to distinguish him from his younger brother François (active 1805-1820, dates of birth and death unknown), was one of the foremost and innovative binders of his time who also successfully engaged in bookselling and publishing. This is the third and most important sale of books from his library held during his lifetime, offering, as the preface states, "de livres précieux et d'ouvrages modernes, la plupart tirés à petit nombre sur papier vélin et papier fin, reliés avec une élégance qui ne laisse rien à désirer" by the bookbinder-collector himself. There were also a dozen "anciennes reliures," including two attributed to Derome. The 1811 sale was preceded by two smaller ones, in 1798 and 1807 (the latter anonymously), both administered by Silvestre. Bozérian sold further books in a mixed sale in 1834.
