FIRST EDITION of the classic exposition of thirteenth-century English common law. Bracton "combined a systematic inquiry into the legal maxims of general validity with their practical application in the common-law courts. Thus he arrived at a formulation of principles which have determined the whole development of English law" (PMM 89); STC 3475.
