Post Lot Text
Extremely rare first edition of Braille's treatise on his revolutionary system of reading, writing and printing for the blind. Ironically it is printed with Valentin Haüy's sytem of embossed characters in heavy paper, the very method that Braille's own was to replace. His invention of a limited number of raised points and short strokes to cover the complete alphabet, accents and other symbols, is displayed on pages 14-16. The Braille system is now in use throughout the literate world. In entirely original condition.
