    BROWNE, Sir Thomas (1605-1692). Pseudodoxia epidemica: or, Enquiries into very many Received Tenents, and commonly Presumes Truths, London: T.H. for Edward Dod, 1646. 2° (265 x 173mm). With the initial leaf of approbation. (A few light stains.) Contemporary calf (rebacked, rubbed). Provenance: numerous contemporary marginalia on such subjects as volcanoes, tides, Roger Bacon and Tanerlane, with a 4 page index at the end -- Stephen Aldhouse (signature dated 1694 on title and his initials stamped on covers). FIRST EDITION. Keynes 73; Wing B5159; and 14 Discourses by Sir Joshua Reynolds (London, 1769-91) bound in one volume, half-titles of the last 2 volumes inscribed by the author to a Mr. Lock. (2)
