Engraved folding plate. 18th-century German painted and decorated vellum richly gilt, in an all over BAROQUE FOLK ART DESIGN pictorial sides and spine, front paste down with a heart flap, covering painted initials on a silver ground, gilt, gauffered and painted edges. Provenance: "M.R.B." and "C.G.H." (initial on front paste down); purchased from Emil Offenbacher, 22 August 1957.
AN ELABORATE PEASANT OR "BAUERN" GIFT BINDING commissioned to commemorate the wedding of "M.R.B." and "C.G.H." on February 7, 1773.
