Original grey-mauve cloth, gilt-lettered spines, upper covers panelled and decorated overall in black, lower covers in blind, (recased with original endpapers and spines, a little faded or soiled, with the neat ink stamp of the Times of India, Bombay on blank verso of last leaf). Provenance: A.W. Hughes, author of 'A Gazetteer of the Province of Sind' 1874, signed by him on title-page Vol. II.
FIRST EDITION, AUTHOR'S PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed to 'A.W. Hughes With the authors best thanks' on half-title. On p. 73, Vol. I Burton refers to Hughes's Gazetteer and notes that he '...need hardly say anything in praise of this laborious work, a mine of information,...' Penzer p. 94-95. Casada 61. (2)
