Large 8o (230 x 165 mm). Mid 19th-century French dark blue morocco for J. Gomez de la Cortina, with his gilt supra-libros in center of sides, spine gilt in "Rocaille" style (joints almost invisibly repaired). Provenance: J. Gomez de la Cortina (his third sale, 1873, lot 5,228, bookplate and binding); A.L. McLaughlin (bookplate).
LIMITED EDITION, one of 25 copies, all printed on "papier d'Hollande," at the collector's expense, of the catalogue of the library of Caillard, diplomat and scholar. "Il avait formé à grands frais une bibliothèque magnifique" (DBF). The collection was rich in incunabula, classics, natural history, voyages and travels, often very finely bound. "Destiné pour une vente, c'est un fort bon catalogue" (Peignot, p. 87). G. Brunet, col. 427.
