As previously noted, imaginary architecture was central to Fornasetti's world. He transformed his furniture into canvases on which to depict his illusionary architectual landscapes, and at times modeled the shapes of furniture after architectural forms. To Fornasetti, the obelisk symbolized architecture in its purest form, and as evidenced by this lamp, it is brought to life in the most unlikely of objects.
