Cosway-style binding in 20th-century brown morocco gilt by Bayntun (Riviere), upper cover with inset original oval portrait miniature of the author, the miniature surrounded by a single gilt fillet, all within an outer border with elaborate semi-stylized cornerpieces of roses and foliage and small dots, linked by a single fillet, the lower cover with a similar outer, the spine in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second and third, the others with a repeat design of a rose spray within a border of fillets and leaves at each corner, gilt turn-ins, marbled-paper endleaves, gilt edges.
