CARPENTER, A GILT METAL AND ENAMEL PAIR CASED VERGE POCKET WATCH WITH CENTRE SECONDS FOR THE ORIENTAL MARKET
signed Wm. Carpenter, London, No.2509, circa 1780.
gilt fusee movement with pierced foliate balance cock, white enamel dial with Roman numerals and outer Arabic five minutes, gilt beetle and poker hands, later steel centre seconds hand, plain inner case, stop slide in the bezel, outer case with pearl and green paste set bezel, the back enamelled with a finely painted scene of a young lady with two children in a wooded landscape, diameter 62mm. With a gilt metal chatelaine and crank key.

William Carpenter worked in Soho, London between 1770 and 1805. He is best kown for elaborate musical automata and watches for the Oriental market.
