ONE OF THE FIRST ACCOUNTS OF MADAGASCAR. Cauche, a native of Rouen, and in 1651 published the Relations Véritables et Curieuses de L'Île de Madagascar in 1651, describing the manners and customs of inhabitants of Madagascar, and its flora and fauna. John Stevens included this account in his collection of travels translated into English and published from 1708 to 1710. Cf. Grandidier 834; cf. Sibree, p.28 (French edition only, under Morisot).
