2 volumes, 4o. Lithographed throughout except for titles and half-titles. (Light browing and staining.) Later half calf and marbled boards, original wrappers bound in (some rubbing to covers).
FIRST EDITION. Champollion studied Hebrew, Syriac, Ethiopic, Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit, and in particular Coptic. His main interest was Egyptology, and he recovered the key for the understanding of the hieroglyphs. Blackmer 310. (2)
