CONTEMPORARY CRIMSON GOATSKIN BOUND FOR CHARLES II BY THE SAMUEL MEARNE BINDERY, covers with gilt fillet border and double panel of gilt fillets, at each side a small pyramid made up of tulip and foliate volutes surmounted by the royal cypher, at each corner an inverted pyramid made up of rose volutes and surmounted by the royal cypher in larger form, spine in seven compartments with raised bands, lettered in one, the remainder with repeatrd royal cypher enclosed by a design of either drawer tools or tulip volutes, gilt board edges and turn-ins, comb-marbled endpapers, gilt edges (slightly discoloured, upper cover with light scuff marks, upper joints splitting slightly but firm, lower cover more heavily scuffed, corners bumped, bottom edges rubbed).
