This example of the Tunisie shelf unit is exceptional in being in original, unrestored condition. Its provenance can be traced directly to its acquisition at the time when the furnishing of the Maison de la Tunisie were dispersed. A number of Tunisie shelf units had survived but for the most part in poor or incomplete state. The agent who organized the dispersal reserved this prime example for himself and it has been in his collection until very recently.
