CHAUVELIN, Germain-Louis de (1685-1762) -- Catalogue des livres de la bibliothèque de feu Messire Germain-Louis Chauvelin. Paris: A.M. Lottin aîné for Lottin aîné & Musier fils, 1 July 1762.
8o (198 x 105 mm). Including the supplement, pp. 89-98. Contemporary mottled calf, spine gilt (some wear to spine and extremities).
PRICED in a contemporary hand. The "fort belle bibliothèque" (Guigard and Olivier) of Chauvelin who from 1727 until his sudden, and never fully explained, disgrace in 1737 was an influential foreign minister. The catalogue appears to have been hastily printed and put together by Lottin who, in his capacity of bookseller, also helped in conducting the sale; consequently, the pagination is awry and the composition of copies varies: that described by Blogie is prefaced by a biography of the late owner whose date of death is misprinted by DBF ("1772"). Blogie II, col. 8; North 165; Olivier, Pl. 1116; Peignot, p. 89.
