Chinese School, 19th Century
A small collection of Chinese botanical watercolours of flowers. [n.p. but ?Canton: n.d. but circa 1800]. 5 FINE WATER- AND BODYCOLOUR DRAWINGS of flowers, some heightening with gum arabic, one titled in ink in English at foot of leaf, all on Chinese pith paper, laid onto early western laid paper, with early black ink ruled borders. Four window-mounted.
A fine collection of chinese botanical studies of flowers, clearly originally in a single album. The subjects are:
1.Pink Tree peony with bud (Paeonia suffructicosa), sheet size: 388 x 307mm., pencilled '58' in upper left corner.
2.Pink Tree peony (Paeonia suffructicosa), sheet size: 402 x 304mm., pencilled '59' in upper left corner. (Light browning).
3.Light pink Tree peony (Peony suffricticosa), sheet size: 402 x 306mm., titled 'Fun-hons-Mou-tan Paeonia arborescans' lower right.
4.Lotus leaves, bud and flower (Nelumbo nucifera), sheet size: 400 x 310mm., pencilled '47' in upper left corner.
5.Pink hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) with a large moth settled on one of the two blooms, sheet size: 403 x 302mm. (Some spotting.) (5)
