FIRST EDITION. In 1815 Choris joined Otto von Kotzebue's expedition aboard the Rurik as the official artist. The three-year voyage was the first Russian circumnavigation devoted exclusively to scientific purposes. Choris published the majority of his drawings in his 1821-1822 account of the trip, Voyage pittoresque autour du monde; the present work, published in 6 fascicles, reproduces 24 drawings not included in the larger work. The lithographed plates include views of Brazil, Teneriffe, Chili, Easter Island, the Sandwich Islands, Manila, etc. Brunet I, 1851; Borba de Moraes 180-181; Sabin 12885.
