FIRST EDITION. "ONE OF THE SOURCE BOOKS FOR THE HISTORY OF THE MISSIONS IN LOWER CALIFORNIA" (Graff). Clavigero was a native of Vera Cruz and served as a missionary among the Mexican Indians before going to Italy in 1767 when the Jesuits were expelled from Mexico. A good deal of this book relates to the settlement of Baja California, with important information also about California missions (including the founding of the mission at San Francisco).
