CONRAD, Joseph. Notes on Life & Letters. London: Dent, 1921. 8o. Original olive-green cloth, unopened (spine slightly darkened). Provenance: Owen Seaman, editor of Punch (pencilled signature) -- Lord Esher (bookplate).
FIRST EDITION, THE RARE FIRST ISSUE of 35 privately-printed advance copies that were "sent to friends of the publisher;" it is a bit taller than copies of the regular trade issue and has the statement "Privately Printed...1921" on verso of title-page; the Contents leaf is in first state (as in all advance issue copies) with the "S" and the "A" missing in the word "SEA"; dust jackets were probably not issued with these advance copies. Cagle A51a(1); Smith, p. 87 (giving the number of advance copies as 33).
