FIRST EDITION of the Cordiale, the most popular eschatalogical treatise of the late Middle Ages, printed in more than 50 incunable editions, including translations into English (printed by Caxton early in his career), French, German, Dutch and Spanish. It contains edifying anecdotes relating to the 'four last things': Death, the Last Judgement, Hell and Heaven. Its authorship has been variously ascribed, principally to Gerardus de Vliederhoven and Dionysius Carthusiensis. Probably the fifth edition of the De vita christiana.
