Discussing the subject of Crucifixions in his work, the artist has commented 'I put the mountain in when I wanted the figure to be in a special place ... The animals are meant to be upset, concerned. It's as though the animal is walking along and is suddenly amazed and horrified and looks up. But there are Crucifixions I've done where the animal is sitting at the foot of the cross completely resigned'.
