In an interview with Norman Rosenthal, Frink rules out the influence of myths and characters on her work, 'The nearest thing is a small sculpture I did called The General which is really a satirical piece on some aspects of leadership - it's a rather flamboyant person on a horse, a send-up of generals. It is an idea I am quite keen to continue' (see N. Rosenthal, Elisabeth Frink, Royal Academy exhibition catalogue, London, 1985, p. 30).
