Post Lot Text
First edition of Danfrie's description of his inventions, printed in his own civilité type and illustrated with fine engravings and woodcuts. Danfrie was a printer, publisher, engraver of coins, mathematician, author and inventor. The graphometer was a revolutionary instrument for measuring angles in surveying, whose life lasted until the beginning of the last century; the trigometer was a triangular measuring device, a kind of complicated quadrant. Handsome copy, with the privilege in first state, and in an 18-century gold-tooled French red morocco binding.
