DECKER, P. Chinese Architecture, Civil and Ornamental. London: Printed for the Author, 1759. [Bound with:] Gothic Architecture Decorated. London: Printed for the Author, 1759.
4 parts in 1 volume. Oblong 4° (229 x 293mm). The first work with 36 engraved plates, the second work with 24 engraved plates. Contemporary speckled calf, morocco lettering-piece (upper hinge worn). Provenance: Gordon Castle (library bookplate).
Little is known of the 'P. Decker' supposedly responsible for these works, although he has sometimes erroneously been identified as the Nuremberg engraver Paul Decker. Of the 24 plates in the first part of the Chinese Architecture, 21 are taken from A New Book of Chinese Designs by Edwards and Darly (1754), to which landscape backgrounds and some minor alterations have been added, as well as some plans and scales. Berlin Kat. 3419 and 3418; Harris 192 and 193.
