A similar view of Malines, seen from the Antwerpse Baan, is in the City Archives, Malines (A.G. Schutte, Dirk Verrijk 1734-1786, Schetsen en Tekeningen, De Baronie van Breda, Belgie en Noord Frankrijk, Alphen aan de Rijn, 1981, p. 135, no. 72, illustrated).

Verrijk is one of the few Dutch artists who is known to have worked in the Southern Netherlands provinces of Brabant and Flanders, which during most of the 18th Century were under Austrian rule since the Peace of Utrecht in 1714. Verrijk visited Malines in 1764 and 1768.
