Woodcut device on title, four initials and one headpiece. 18th-century tree-calf, flat-backed spine gilt, in six compartments, one with a red morocco lettering piece, another with a black morocco lettering piece with gilt initials CMD (joints a little weak, slight chips to head and foot of spine). FIRST EDITION, second issue title. John Donne the younger notes in the preface that only 500 copies of this work were printed, it is undoubtedly the rarest of the three folio collections of Donne's sermons. Loosely inserted is a 4pp. letter from Evelyn M. Simpson to John Sparrow largely concerning the book and a comparative collation she carried out in 1952. Keynes Donne 32; Wing D-1873.
