The folio has the impression of the seal of Muhammad Sadiq.
The composition of this drawing is identical to one in the Keir Collection (Robinson et al, no.III.69 p.148 and pl.22). Much has been written about the probable origin of many of these dragon studies. Claims have been made for both Turkey and Persia. The style of drawing of the rocks and flowers here makes Persia the more probable origin. The period could also be earlier than suggested; the Keir drawing has tentatively been dated to the early fifteenth century.
