6 vols. in 5, large folio, 532 x 342 mm., contemporary green half morocco gilt, t.e.g., rebacked with backstrips laid down, some foxing and browning to text and plates throughout, edges of the sheets a little darkened, three plates with a stain in margin, no. 116 with ragged edges, no. 285 creased and repaired, one text leaf torn and repaired.
FIRST EDITION, LARGE-PAPER COPY. 2 plain and 420 stipple-engraved plates printed in colors and finished by hand, by 23 engravers after the drawings by Poiteau and Turpin, printed by Langlois, half-titles.
The finest and most extensive work on fruit, independent from Duhamel's Traité, 1768, from which, in homage, it takes its title.
