'Edwin' was originally the constant companion of Percy Kynnersley-Baddeley. He was a young second lieutenant in the Royal Artillery, he took Edwin with him to the Great War and carried him in his jacket pocket.
Percy died at the Battle of the Somme on the 2nd July 1916. Edwin was then sent to Verna, his young bride of six months who refused to allow anyone to touch Edwin who sat on a shelf next to Percy's photograph in her bedroom.
Percy is buried at the Citadel New Military Cemetery, Fricourt, Somme, France.
