PROPERTY OF A NOBLE FAMILY
EQUESTRIANISM. Manuscript on paper, Stuttgart, 1580-83, 'Roß Artzeneii Buch', a manual of horse doctoring, in four books, possibly taken from different sources, apparently imperfect, Book I illustrated with 17 diagrammatic coloured drawings of horses, illustrating various ailments ('Wann Ein Roß nicht Stallen Kann', 'Wann Ein Roß Zue viel Erineret', 'Wann die Würm Ein Roß Beißen' etc), altogether 357 leaves, 4to (186 x 155mm), index 6 leaves, folio, loosely inserted in Vol.I, in 2 volumes, vellum covers, reusing leaves from a 16th-century choirbook. Provenance: 'Herrn Graff wolffgang Friderichs Gnaden Anngehörig' (note in a late 16th-century hand on upper cover of Vol.II).
Book I is identified as taken from an old Wurttemberg manual attributed to Walter von Sazschwiz. A note on f.82 apparently identifies the scribe as Johann von Ewenroth. (2)
