    'CARAVANSERRAGLIO', A PAINTED WOOD CENTERPIECE BY ETTORE SOTTSASS FROM THE 'BAU.HAUS II' COLLECTION, FOR ALCHIMIA, DESIGNED 1979, DISCONTINUED CIRCA 1981

    Caravanserraglios, or caravanserais, were important and inevitable stopping-off places, supporting the flow of commerce, people and information up until the early 20th century.

    Of square or rectangular form, the building's interior courtyard opened to the sky, from which this centerpiece is directly influenced
