PRICED in a contemporary hand. Lot 1 is a Gutenberg Bible "Biblia Moguntina. Editio vetustissima, 2 vol. fol. v." which realized 2,025 francs. De Ricci, "Mayence," 1911 lists it among the lost copies. "According to Danchin, eager Lille booksellers distributed the catalogue before it could be approved by the censors, and the auction was nearly cancelled by the authorities over the inclusion of heretical and licentious books, 26 of which were eventually removed from the sale" (North). The collection was particularly strong in works on the history of the Low Countries and Lille. Blogie II, col 10; Folter 7; Danchin 1659; North 182.
