Lot Essay

The pose of the figure on the right is close to Barocci's preparatory ideas for Saint Jude in the Madonna di San Simone in the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche, Urbino, datable circa 1567 (A. Emiliani, Federico Barocci, Bologna, 1985, I, p. 44). Nicholas Turner has kindly confirmed the attribution.
