The present lot shows a view of Wall Street looking towards Trinity Church on Broadway, with the Federal Hall National Memorial in the right foreground.
The artist was born in Honolulu, Hawa, and received her artistic training at the Corcoran Art School In Washington D.C.. At the start of her career, she mostly painted interiors, later on adding landscapes and cityscapes to her oeuvre. Howell was married to Georg Mixter, a yachtsman, with whom she often sailed along the New England coast. During these trips she executed numerous watercolours of coastal scenes.
