FENESTELLA, Lucius (attributed to; FLOCCUS, Andreas [c.1400-1452]). De Romanorum magistratibus. - ALBERICUS (fl. first half 12th century). De imaginibus deorum. [Milan: Philippus de Lavagnia, 1475-77].
Chancery 4° (164 x 115mm). Roman type, initial spaces with guide-letters. (Loss of a few letters on b3v-4r through adhesion.) 18th-century sprinkled calf, gilt spine, red edges. Provenance: neat corrections and marginal annotations (trimmed close) in a humanist hand.
FIRST EDITION OF ALBERICUS' INFLUENTIAL MYTHOLOGICAL WORK. It was an important source for the transmission of classical iconography of the pagan gods, and was cited by Petrarch and Boccaccio, among others. The first separate edition did not appear until 1525, but it was appended to several 15th-century editions of ps-Fenestella. [Not H]CR 6959 = H 6962; GW 10042; Goff F-63.
