    Lot Essay

    Jules Cheret (born Paris 1836 died Nice 1933), considered the Father of The Poster, lived in England between 1856 and 1866 where he studied chromolithography. He met Rimmel at that time. Backed by Rimmel between 1866 and 1881 he published posters in three colours. In 1881 he sold his studio to Chaix but remained its artistic director.
