FIVE ROMAN POTTERY OIL LAMPS
CIRCA 1ST-5TH CENTURY A.D.
One (circa 1st century A.D.) red-slipped, molded with an erotic scene, the woman reclining to her left, her knees bent, her lover standing to her side, his arms lowered in embrace; one (circa 2nd century A.D.) with a standing nude warrior, armed with a crested helmet, spear and shield, a workshop signature on the underside, L MVNSVC; one (circa 2nd century A.D.) with a lion attacking a man; one of North African red slip ware (circa 4th-5th century A.D.) with a standing youth holding a basket and a branch; and one (circa 2nd century A.D.) rectangular in form, with ten radiating nozzles, three fill holes at the center, a workshop signature on the underside, KAIEICWPA; together with two lamp fragments (circa 1st century A.D.), one of buff-colored fabric, preserving the discus molded with a love-making scene, the man reclining to his left, his lover lowering herself on to him; and one red-slipped, preserving part of the discus molded with a love-making scene, the woman with her head turned back towards her kneeling lover who holds her right leg over his shoulder
