FRANCE and the LOW COUNTRIES. Journal of an expedition to Paris and Brussels, 21 April - 6 June 1825, inscribed 'Harriet Wormald 1825', ILLUSTRATED WITH 31 WATERCOLOUR SKETCHES; an appendix contains a list of valuable addresses in Paris, French recipes, a poem describing a ball at York, and a letter of advice on travelling in France, 129 pages, 4to; original boards (sprung).
The journal describes the experiences of two Yorkshire ladies in their journey to Paris and Brussels. The illustrations are notably quirky, and in addition to humorous depictions of local characters and costumes, include tableaus and caricatures of incidents and fellow travellers in their journey, together with a group showing fancy dress costumes at a ball in York.
