Lot Essay

By the same hand and size as a drawing in the Staatliche Museen Preussischer Kulturbesitz, Berlin, J.-L. Bordeaux, François Le Moyne and his Generation, Neuilly-sur-Seine, 1984, no. D57, fig. 185. The Berlin drawing was dated by Jean-Luc Bordeaux to Le Moyne's stay in Rome in 1724. It bears the characteristic inscription 'le moyne', probably written by the collector Berger, which is present on many Le Moyne drawings.
