Contemporary speckled calf, spine gilt (neat repairs to corners, upper joint and head and foot of spine.) Provenance: lengthy bibliographical note in French on front free endpaper in an unidentified 19th-century hand.
A fine series of plates commemorating the obsequies for Archduke Albert VII of Austria, nephew and son-in-law of Philip IV of Spain, and from 1596 until his death in 1621 governor of the Netherlands. It was originally published in Brussels in 1623: this reprint employs the same plates with the addition of a description of the obsequies for Albert's widow. Princess Isabella, and a plate of the catafalque erected for her in the church of St.Jacques du Coudenberg on March 3rd 1634. The text comprises a eulogy by the royal historian Puteanus (the French translation by Philippe Chifflet), and a description of the ceremony and funeral layout. Palau 242405; Vinet 622.
