Moon Mullins 12/21/1924
Original art, hand colored Moon Mullins Sunday. An example of a Christmas gag. After the debut of the strip in 1923, Willard hired a young cartonist named Fred Johnson to assist him and he gradually turned much of the work on the strip over to Johnson so that he might concentrate on his social life. Johnson was hired by Willard as a 17 year old to color the Sunday strip and help with backgrounds and lettering. In his almost eighty years in cartooning, he created several of his own strips. Mixed media on paper-25 x 16½ in.
