Half-titles. 43 plates, 3 folding coloured maps and numerous text illustrations. (A few plates and leaves detached with edges frayed, some quires loose.) Original publisher's green cloth, decorated in gilt (worn, hinges split, spines detaching). Provenance: Roald Amundsen (WITH AMUNDSEN'S OWNERSHIP INSCRIPTION in Norwegian 'This book has accompanied me on all my journeys Roald Amundsen' on verso of both frontispieces) -- Malfred Amundsen (sister-in-law of Roald Amundsen, ownership inscription in Norwegian on verso of both frontispieces), and thence by descent to the present owner.
