EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED with 4 autograph letters signed, one by Wilkie COLLINS, and 193 engraved, etched, lithographic, acquatint, mezzotint, and woodcut prints, the majority 19th-century, some proofs on india, 2 manuscript facsimiles and one a chromolithographic portrait, some inlaid to size. (Scattered light spotting.) Contemporary maroon crushed morocco by S. Kaufmann, the covers with blind-ruled double fillet borders, the spines divided into 6 compartments, lettered in gilt in 2 and dated at the foot, the other compartments with blind-ruled frames, roll-tooled gilt turn ins, top edges gilt (extremities lightly rubbed and bumped, upper hinges of volumes II and III split, all volumes skilfully rebacked).

Autograph letter signed to John Palgrave Simpson, Lutterworth, 12 October 1866, discussing the performing rights of his play The Frozen Deep, and referring to his impending departure for Italy, 3 Pages, 8° and 3 autograph letters signed to Simpson by: Arthur C. Blunt, 12 December 1875, relating Wilkie Collins' praise for the production of Miss Gwilt (Collins' dramatic adaptation of his novel Armadale) that Blunt is performing in, noting that he is to be photographed in costume, and promising to send some newspaper reviews, 2 pages, integral blanks, 8°; F.C. Burnand, [n.d.], discussing contributions to Punch, 2 pages, integral blanks, 8°; P.M.L. Monckton, [n.d.], sending some newspaper reviews of 'Lady Didlock', 4 pages, 8°. The subjects of the 155 portraits include Wilkie Collins, Charles Dickens, 'George Eliot', Thomas Hardy, Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais, John Ruskin, W.M. Thackeray, J.M.W.
