Lyons: widow of Balthazar Arnoullet for Thibault Payan, 1558. 4to, 247 x 184mm, vellum medieval MS fragments over thin paper boards, rebacked with vellum, rubbed, darkened, leaves browned, stained, some tears in blank margins repaired, a few leaves partially split at hinge. Printer's device, 508 woodcut small botanical illustrations by Clément Boussy, historiated initials from several sets. Baudrier IV, 276.
A rare edition, reprinting Guéroult's translation, first printed by Arnoullet in 1550, including additional material. Not in Adams, not in NLM/Durling; Nissen (BBI 671) and Pritzel (3139) cite a 1558 edition printed by G. Rouille.
Provenance: M.V., 17th-century inscription and annotations in French on distilling plants and the medical uses of the distillates -- several inscriptions deleted from title-page -- Kenneth K. Mackenzie; Horticultural Society of New York, bookplate and blindstamp.
